Philip Bednarczyk joins German Marshall Fund of the United States
Washington, DC – The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) is delighted to announce that Philip Bednarczyk today joins the organization as the director of its Warsaw office.
Bednarczyk served as adviser for Europe and Eurasia to the US House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs Committee for the past eight years, where he earned a reputation as a top senior staffer for European affairs. He was also staff director for the House Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats for then-Ranking Member Gregory Meeks. As a Bosch Foundation fellow based in Germany in 2018-2019, he spent time in Dresden, Passau, and the German Bundestag in Berlin.
Bednarczyk also worked for an American NGO in Moscow, for the EU in Brussels, and in Tallinn. A dual Polish-American citizen, he studied at Fordham University and received a master’s degree in Russia and Eurasia studies from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.
Bednarczyk will lead GMF’s work in Poland, develop new projects on transatlantic security and defense cooperation, and provide US foreign policy expertise.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Phil as our new Warsaw office director at this pivotal moment for Europe and transatlantic relations”, said GMF President Dr. Alexandra de Hoop Scheffer. “Phil is a dedicated transatlantic leader and a true bridge builder, known for establishing strong partnerships across the US Congress, European parliaments, governments, civil society, and the private sector. His proven ability to unite diverse stakeholders will be an invaluable asset to our work in Poland and throughout the region. I am confident that Phil’s vision and drive will further strengthen our mission and elevate GMF’s policy impact in Warsaw and beyond”.
