Brexit: Limiting the Damage

October 20, 2017 | 10:00AM to 11:15AM EDT
Washington, DC

Discussants

  • Dan Mulhall, Ambassador of Ireland to the United States
  • Sir Michael Leigh, Senior Fellow, The German Marshall Fund of the United States

Moderator

  • Karen Donfried, President, The German Marshall Fund of the United States

Since Britain officially triggered Article 50 and the two-year process of exiting the European Union on March 29, 2017, elections in France and Germany have altered the political climate of two of the EU’s most prominent members and with it Europe as a whole. Over the next 18 months, the U.K. and the EU will negotiate the Brexit divorce while navigating a changed political landscape as the new French leadership and the next German government exit the campaign trail and begin enacting their agendas.

In light of these developments, The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) invites you to a roundtable discussion with Sir Michael Leigh, senior fellow at GMF’s Brussels office, and Irish Ambassador to the United States Daniel Mulhall. This on-the-record discussion, moderated by GMF President Karen Donfried, will address the implications of Brexit, while exploring avenues to limit potential negative effects on Europe’s unity and influence.

The event will take place at GMF's 1700 18th St NW location.
