Japan Trilateral Forum, Brussels: 5th Edition
The German Marshall Fund (GMF), in partnership with the Japanese Mission to the European Union, hosted the fifth iteration of the Japan Trilateral Forum from October 1-2, 2018 in Brussels. The annual Forum, the premiere venue covering Europe-Japan-U.S. relations, brings together leaders from media, business, academia, and government for a dynamic conversation on common and urgent economic, foreign policy, and security issues.
This year participants addressed domestic politics, Europe’s role in the “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” strategy, the global trade agenda, diplomatic efforts on the Korean peninsula, the economic and political effects of emerging technologies, European defense cooperation, and China’s economic influence. JTF comments: The threat of de-coupling and dis-engagement is real and already ongoing to a certain degree, it is not only pushed by the US also by China. Where will Europe and Japan wind up in case of US-China divorce? #EUJapanUS
