Description

The Trump administration and its emphasis on “America First” has exacerbated European concerns about the American commitment to European security and alliance unity. Is America still willing to incur nuclear risks for the defense of its European allies? And if Trump’s commitment to NATO declines, how should European NATO countries reinforce the alliance’s nuclear deterrence posture independently from American nuclear decision making? The discussion will address the future of transatlantic nuclear deterrence in the Trump-era, and its concrete implications for European allies.

Martin Quencez

Fellow and Deputy Director, Paris Office
