On January 13, GMF held a reception on Capitol Hill to honor new Members of Congress and Senators and introduce them to the European diplomatic corps. The event was held in the Democratic Caucus room, where Senior Congressman Darrell Issa, one of the co-chairs of the Congressional EU Caucus, set the stage for the evening, encouraging them to join the Caucus and participate in GMF's conferences and study tours. GMF Vice President Karen Donfried introduced Ambassador Petr Kolar of the Czech Republic, who opened with brief remarks on the Czech EU Presidency and prospects for transatlantic cooperation. The Washington Post's David Ignatius gave perspectives on prospects for foreign policy under the Obama Administration, particularly on Middle East policy and Russia. Several Members and Ambassadors asked thoughtful questions and engaged in a lively discussion.
