Last year, for the first time in its history, the NATO Alliance conducted its first China Review. While the December 2019 NATO Summit only made a passing reference to China, the China Reviews signals a wider interest among member states to begin looking at some of the challenges associated with China's rise and the implications for transatlantic security. As NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated at the summit, "This is not about moving NATO into the South China Sea, but it's about taking into account that China is coming closer to us - in the Arctic, in Africa, investing heavily in our infrastructure in Europe, in cyberspace." With NATO now much more focused on China as a geostrategic challenge, how can NATO further construct a coherent and informed China policy moving forward? What internal and external pressures may prevent NATO from pursuing such efforts? What are the kinds of tools the NATO alliance might use or create to counter China's global ambitions?

Please join GMF's Asia Program for a webinar on China’s growing influence and the potential contours of NATO’s China Strategy.
