On November 24, the German Marshall Fund of the United States hosted a panel discussion featuring Ambassador Marc Grossman, Dr. Frederic Grare, and Dhruva Jaishankar to celebrate the release of “A Transatlantic Pakistan Agenda.” The report is the product of a study by GMF and the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI), with support from Sweden’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs. GMF Transatlantic Fellow Andrew Small moderated the conversation.
Dhruva Jaishankar opened the conversation by outlining the key findings of the report on the four focus topics: nuclear proliferation, counter-terrorism, governance, and economics. Ambassador Grossman and Dr. Grare then commented on the report’s findings, before moderator Andrew Small opened the discussion up to include questions from the audience. Ambassador Grossman emphasized that Pakistanis need to take the lead on issues pertaining to Pakistan and that American and European conversations with Pakistan should serve to enhance Pakistani sovereignty. Dr. Grare suggested that Europe and the United States take a more direct approach to achieving their goals vis-à-vis Pakistan.
