Young Transatlantic Network of Future Leaders, Balkan Trust for Democracy

On May 5, 2016, Belgrade chapter of the German Marshall Fund’s Young Transatlantic Network organized a conversation with Tim Judah, Balkans correspondent for The Economist. The event was held as a side event of the high-level security conference To Be Secure Forum (2BS Forum).

Tim Judah offered very interesting and comprehensive views in a wide-range discussion including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, parallels between the situation today in Ukraine and the former Yugoslavia in the early 1990s, and the future of the Balkan countries. He underlined the effects of the crisis on the Ukrainian society and gave an analysis of his new book, In Wartime: Stories from Ukraine, where he tells the human story behind the headlines about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and explores the impact of the crisis on the ordinary people of Ukraine.

This conversation was moderated by Aleksandra Obradovic, BTD Program Assistant, with an introduction by BTD Program Coordinator, Snezana Vukovic. The event was attended by representatives of the Youth Atlantic Treaty Association (YATA) and representatives from think tank, academic and government sectors.
