Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Post-Soviet Politics and Economics, Political Economy, Economic Sanctions, Corruption, Illicit Finance

Boris Kowalski is a junior programme assistant in GMF’s Warsaw office. With a background in regional studies, Boris works and writes on issues related to authoritarian regimes and economic policymaking in the post-Soviet space, the impact of economic sanctions, corruption, and illicit financial flows, with a focus on Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and the countries of Central Asia. Before joining GMF, he gained experience while working as an intern at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Russia and as an election observer in Ukraine. Boris holds an MSc in Russian and East European studies from the University of Oxford and a BA in international studies with a specialization in Russian and Eurasian studies from Leiden University.
