Remembering GMF Founder Guido Goldman
Without the creativity, magnetism, humanity, and ideals of Guido Goldman, the German Marshall Fund would not exist today. Guido, who sadly passed away on November 30, 2020, was instrumental in securing an endowment from the German government that would become the blueprint for the German Marshall Fund. His vision, which came to fruitation in 1972 with GMF's founding, would serve as a memorial to the Marshall Plan following its 25th anniversary. Known as "America's Mr. Germany," he would become GMF's first president and board chairman, a position he held for the next four decades. Today Guido's legacy and passion for the transatlantic relationship emulates through GMF's work and the values through which the organization was built upon.
