Beniamino Irdi joins German Marshall Fund of the United States
Washington, DC – The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) today welcomes Beniamino Irdi, one of Italy’s leading foreign policy experts, as a nonresident senior fellow. He brings to GMF expertise on the geopolitics of the Mediterranean, great-power competition, democratic resilience, and hybrid threats. While contributing to GMF’s work in these areas, he will also elevate the organization’s focus on Italy.
Irdi is the founder and chief executive officer of HighGround, a political-risk consulting firm based in Milan and Rome. His professional background includes 17 years in the Italian government, where he focused on foreign policy, national security, and strategic affairs. He worked in the prime minister’s office, served as special adviser to Italy’s foreign minister, and was posted to Italian embassies in Tokyo and Washington, DC.
“Beniamino’s distinguished government career and expertise on issues at the forefront of transatlantic relations stand out,” said GMF President Dr. Alexandra de Hoop Scheffer. “At a time when Italy plays an increasingly prominent role in transatlantic relations, we are thrilled to have his unique perspective.”
