Washington, DC (September 17, 2026) – The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) is delighted to announce the appointment of Doug Ducey, former governor of Arizona and past chief executive officer of Citizens for Free Enterprise, to the GMF Board of Trustees.
Ducey is a nationally recognized business and political leader with extensive experience advancing economic growth, innovation, and public-private collaboration. As Arizona's 23rd governor, serving from 2015 to 2023, he led one of the fastest-growing state economies in the United States and championed policies focused on competitiveness, workforce development, education, and investment. Prior to his public service career, Ducey served as CEO of Cold Stone Creamery, building the company into a globally recognized brand.
"We are thrilled to welcome Doug to our board at a critical moment for the transatlantic relationship," said Christopher Schroeder, GMF Board of Trustees chair. "Doug's experience as a public leader and a successful entrepreneur brings valuable insight to the economic and political challenges shaping the future of the United States, Europe, and the broader transatlantic community. His perspective will strengthen GMF's efforts to advance innovative solutions to today's most pressing issues."
"I am honored to join GMF's Board of Trustees and support an institution that has played such an important role in strengthening transatlantic cooperation," said Ducey. "The United States and Europe face a rapidly evolving strategic environment that demands strong partnerships, economic resilience, and principled leadership. I look forward to working alongside my fellow trustees to help advance GMF's mission."
During his tenure as governor, Ducey helped position Arizona as a leading destination for investment and technology development while serving as chairman of the Republican Governors Association. He is currently a Residential Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School in the Institute of Politics and formerly served as CEO of Citizens for Free Enterprise, a national organization dedicated to promoting economic opportunity and free enterprise principles.
"We could not be more pleased to welcome Doug Ducey to the Board of Trustees," said GMF President Dr. Alexandra de Hoop Scheffer. "His experience at the intersection of business, public policy, and economic competitiveness will be an invaluable asset as GMF continues to address the challenges and opportunities facing the transatlantic partnership. We look forward to benefiting from his leadership and expertise."
