About this event

Moldova’s September 28 parliamentary election is a pivotal test for the country’s democratic resilience and European trajectory. The vote takes place amid persistent risks ranging from illicit financing and media capture to Russian hybrid operations and disinformation campaigns. It also takes place amid overlapping crises—Russia’s war against Ukraine, energy and economic insecurity, institutional strain, and deep political polarization—and has implications that go far beyond the country’s parliamentary balance of power. The election’s integrity and outcome will shape Moldova’s internal cohesion, its EU accession path, and its resistance to foreign interference.

This event brings together experts to assess the key election takeaways. Panelists will discuss the electoral process, campaign dynamics, observed irregularities, and the broader political implications of the vote. The discussion will also explore whether the election bolstered or undermined Moldovan democracy, how that now positions the country for EU accession, and steps to reinforce electoral integrity against persistent internal and external threats.
