Transatlantic Trends 2020

French, German, and American perspectives align and diverge in unexpected ways, according to new transatlantic opinion research. France is increasingly skeptical of international engagement, Germany is increasingly open to involving itself in foreign affairs, and China’s influence on the world stage is rapidly mounting in the wake of the coronavirus crisis. Do Europe and the United States still have the common ground to forge a shared agenda on security, digital, and international trade issues?

To answer these questions, the Bertelsmann Foundation, the German Marshall Fund of the United States and Institut Montaigne are publishing a comprehensive international survey on Tuesday, June 30.

The results, collected in part before and after the coronavirus crisis, reveal the impact of this pandemic on public opinion.
