About this event

GMF and the American-German Institute are pleased to invite you to a joint event examining the evolving transatlantic agenda on critical minerals. This discussion takes place amid intensified US-European engagement, including a recently signed US-EU memorandum of understanding and action plan on critical minerals supply‑chain resilience.

As the United States and Europe accelerate efforts to secure access to critical-mineral supply chains, questions about transatlantic coordination, economic security objectives, and their intersections with the global trading system, are becoming increasingly urgent.

Bringing together senior US, European, and German policymakers and industry leaders, the event will explore where transatlantic interests align, where frictions persist, and how current policy approaches may impact global trade governance.

The discussion will examine the commercial and policy dimensions of the transatlantic critical-minerals challenge: the nature of the problem, the intersection of market dynamics and industrial policy, and Europe’s emerging approach to these issues. The second half of the program will assess the systemic implications, including the prospects for plurilateral arrangements, the role of the G7, and the meaning of expanding economic security policies for the global trading system.
