Karen Slachetka is GMF’s deputy managing director of strategic convening. She manages events at the organization’s Washington, DC headquarters and supports operations related to Brussels Forum, GMF’s flagship conference. She has organized events in more than 25 US cities and in six countries.

Slachetka joined GMF after 12 years at the Brookings Institution, where she most recently served as associate director of event strategy in the Metro program. In that capacity, she led efforts to accelerate the program’s impact and raise the profile of its scholars through direct engagement, event-driven strategic partnerships, and other initiatives. Prior to working at Brookings, she was a legislative assistant for a Washington, DC-based lobbying firm and a scheduler for US Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ). Slachetka holds a degree in political science from the University of Delaware.
