Responding to a recent essay arguing that transatlanticism is over, GMF President Alexandra de Hoop Scheffer asserts in an op-ed for Foreign Policy that current developments in US-Europe relations do not represent a collapse of ties. The events reflect a transformation instead. Drawing on record European defense spending increases and deep transatlantic trade and investment links, she contends that the United States and Europe are shifting toward a more balanced partnership built on structural interdependence.

In this Foreign Policy Magazine debate with Nathalie Tocci, Director of the Istituto Affari Internazionali, moderated by Ravi Agrawal, Editor in Chief of Foreign Policy, de Hoop Scheffer defends her argument.
