About this event

Amid the profound international transformations shaping Europe’s security, stability, and competitiveness, Czechia’s parliamentary elections on October 3–4 seem poised to bring a change in government in Prague. The ANO Movement of former Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, now aligned with the Patriots for Europe party family, is emerging as the leading party in the race. Given ANO’s growing rapprochement with far‑right forces in domestic and European politics, the stakes in these elections are exceptionally high for Czechia and the EU.

The policy brief “Lines of (Re)Alignment: Czech Foreign Policy After the 2025 Elections”, published by the Association for International Affairs, one of Czechia’s foremost foreign policy think tanks, examines the potential realignment of the country’s foreign and EU policies after the vote. The analysis, structured around four post‑election scenarios, and shaped by the strength of ANO’s performance and the platforms of its potential partners, also explores possible government coalitions.

This event will look at the potential influence of antagonistic rhetoric and uncooperative conduct on key partnerships and alliances, and address the growing uncertainty around Czechia’s stance on critical issues, including support for Ukraine and advancing European defense capabilities.
