Austin Slater is the Press Officer for the Alliance for Securing Democracy at the German Marshall Fund of the United States where he leads communication efforts that bring attention to autocratic efforts attempting to undermine democratic institutions.

Slater has a history of leading 360-degree communications efforts. Prior to joining ASD at GMF, he led communications for the N7 Initiative at the Atlantic Council where he positioned the initiative as a thought leader and convener for Arab-Israeli peace dialogue in the wake of the Abraham Accords signed in 2020. Before moving to Washington, Slater led communications for the workforce development nonprofit, Be Pro Be Proud, as it grew throughout the southeastern United States, using virtual reality and augmented reality to introduce students to various technical career paths facing workforce shortages in Arkansas, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Slater received his master’s degree from the Clinton School of Public Service where he studied methods of increasing civic engagement via digital literacy. Outside the office, Slater is a diehard Arkansas Razorbacks and Boston Red Sox fan and spends as much time as possible enjoying the outdoors.
