Compromise at any price?

Ursula von der Leyen is to become the new head of the European Commission. This was decided by the heads of state and government after tough negotiations, even though Germany’s minister of defense was not a top candidate. The outrage in the European Parliament is correspondingly great.

What does the decision mean for the further democratization of the EU? Does this mean that the newly introduced principle of the Spitzenkandidaten is no longer on the table? Or will the European Parliament ultimately revolt against the heads of government?

Discussion guests:

Sven Giegold, MEP (Greens)

Andreas Schwab, Member of the European Parliament (CDU)
