In GMF's Leadership Perspectives Call on the State of Transatlantic Democracy, Freedom House President, Michael J. Abramowitz (MMF '03), explores the challenges faced by democracies across Europe and the United States, discusses what strategies that the aspiring authoritarians and their sympathizers are pursuing to amass and centralize power, and what civically minded leaders can be doing to resist and reverse these trends.

Michael J. Abramowitz (MMF’03) is president of Freedom House.  Before joining Freedom House in February 2017, he was the director of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Levine Institute for Holocaust Education. He is also a distinguished former journalist at the Washington Post, where he served as both the White House correspondent and the National Editor.  He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and former fellow at the German Marshall Fund and the Hoover Institution.
