“ But those countries are not plagued by the same degree of political division as in the United States, according to David Salvo, a former U.S. diplomat and now managing director of the Alliance for Securing Democracy at the German Marshall Fund think tank. “It’s tough, because the best practices tend to be in places where either trust in government is a hell of a lot higher than it is here,” he said. ”
“ Bret Schafer, a propaganda expert at the advocacy group Alliance for Securing Democracy, points out that in 2016 “nobody was communicating particularly well, so those silos led to us missing things. And now, for different reasons, those silos have been built back up again.””
“ One of the most active websites we found in our study is Greek. These are supposed to be authentic websites of networks in, for example, the USA or Africa, however, in reality they were republishing propaganda supported by the Russian regime. There were also some sites in our study with the ending ".gr". So we definitely found a footprint in Greece," said Bret Schafer, researcher at the German Marshall Fund.”
