European Resilience
Democratic states and societies are under assault. They face authoritarian actions that undermine their democratic institutions and fuel political polarization that tears at their social fabric. These actions include information manipulation, hybrid attacks, and even military conflict.
The European Resilience program builds on over three decades of continuous GMF support for democratic reform and Euro-Atlantic integration in Central and Eastern Europe to strengthen the continent’s ability to withstand these current and emerging challenges to its democracy and security. The program:
-
conducts solution-oriented research on challenges to democratic societies
-
empowers democratic actors across Europe by building their resilience and capacity, in part through grantmaking and networking
-
works to protect the integrity of democratic institutions, free elections, and independent media
-
facilitates cross-border exchanges, transnational learning, and strategic cooperation among key resilience actors in Europe and elsewhere
In so doing, the European Resilience program adds a crucial dimension to GMF’s broader Transatlantic Security programming.
